Omre\u017eju sporo\u010di, s katerim VLR\/MSC je naro\u010dnik trenutno povezan. Z la\u017enim sporo\u010dilom updateLocation napadalec trdi, da je \u017ertvin MS povezan z njegovim MSC. V tem primeru se naro\u010dnikova sporo\u010dila SMS posredujejo napadal\u010devemu centru za sporo\u010dila SMS, ki jih dostavi dr\u017eavi \u010dlanici.<\/p>\n<p>Poleg prestrezanja osebnih sporo\u010dil SMS ciljne osebe je ta napad mogo\u010de uporabiti tudi proti sistemom preverjanja pristnosti, ki uporabljajo preverjanje SMS (\u017eeton SMS, preverjanje na Facebooku itd.), kar lahko privede do razkritja identitete ciljne osebe.<\/p>\n<p>Omre\u017eja druge generacije (2G) niso ponujala koncepta vzajemnega preverjanja pristnosti, pri katerem se omre\u017eje samo preverja pri naro\u010dniku. Zaradi tega je bil naro\u010dnik ranljiv za napad, znan kot lovilec IMSI 2G. Pri tem napadu lahko napadalec, ki uporablja prevarantsko radijsko celico, najavi isto omre\u017eje kot legitimno omre\u017eje z ve\u010djo mo\u010djo kot obi\u010dajno omre\u017eje.<\/p>\n<p>Cilj se nato nevede pove\u017ee s prevarantsko celico namesto z zakonitim omre\u017ejem. Napadalec prestre\u017ee klic in ga posreduje naprej do cilja. V omre\u017ejih 3G tak\u0161en napad ni bil mogo\u010d, saj mora omre\u017eje pred vzpostavitvijo klica avtentificirati nazaj naro\u010dnika.
